Wait, I just realized something. “Because it’s exactly what you deserve.” Aurora never did anything to Maleficent. It was always strictly the other way around, so what possible grudge does Maleficent have against her? I wonder if it has to do with Guinevere?
Well, here’s what we know so far: Guinevere is clearly someone from Maleficent’s past, and the past of one of Aurora’s previous lives. We already know from later chapters that Guinevere, Morgan and Maleficent form a trifecta of sorceresses that studied under Merlin. Guinevere also acts antagonistically towards Aurora in her dream sequence, but then during that flashback Aurora has of Guinevere, she’s making fun of Maleficent, saying she is inferior. So she’s clearly an enemy to both of them. I had a theory before that Aurora was in her past life, a girl brought to life by Queen Guinevere to act as a decoy to hide her affairs from King Arthur and his court and that at some point she was swept into a scheme that involved hurting Maleficent, hence the grudge. But I know I might be very wrong, because I seldom can predict these writers correctly LOL
Morgana and Morgause are usually sisters although sometimes Morgause is Morgana’s aunt. Morgana and Guinevere were rivals with Morgana having a son, Mordred, with her half-brother Arthur to try and take over the throne. I think she’s usually the one who exposes Guinevere and Lancelot’s affair as well. We know in this comic that Guinevere is also a sorceress and actually the most powerful of Merlin’s pupils. Morgana also seemed to hate or fear Guinevere because she gets angry at Aurora for waking up Guinevere. My personal guess is that Morgause/Maleficent is the one who puts Guinevere in that deep sleep and this is a spell she repeats on Aurora much later as we see in Sleeping Beauty. What Aurora’s connection is, specifically to Guinevere, is uncertain though.
Something else to be noted is that Morgana, at least to me, seems to bear a resemblance to Aurora. Especially since they both have violet eyes. Morgana is also in the Court of the Forgotten Rose, the rebel villains in the Citadel working against Carmilla, Maleficent, and the rest of the sins. So it seems like all three sorceresses don’t get along.
There is one Arthurian legend where Arthur and Morgana (despite being maternal half-siblings) bear a child named Mordred. I wonder if Aurora is a descendant of his. But then again the doll theory would make sense too, because Guinevere refers to her as such and Vlad is trying to make a doll to hold the fractured spirit of his late wife. Nice theorizing, everyone! I like hearing other people’s thoughts.

I serious doubt Aurora will ever recover from this.
Just had to make Aurora’s last memory of Philip to be the most traumatizing image she will never forget, huh?
How do we spell Maleficent, children?

Oh he blew up, I expected more violence. Now I’m wondering why she didn’t just do that in the movie if she can make people explode.
Same Aurora, same. I wasn’t prepared.
Oh my god! This is WAY worse than the original!

Same, didn’t need to see Phillip explode!
I don’t know what I was expecting… But I guess I should have seen this coming
Geez, Maleficent! You didn’t have to make Phillip explode like a frickin’ piñata!

Never mind I remember Merryweather’s gift so that’s probably why Maleficent didn’t just make him explode with thorns the first time.
