I’ll admit, I find this change rather jarring. I liked the original design for Bastion because it was really cute and showed that your version of Rapunzel was different from Disney’s Tangled. However, this is your choice and your comic and I respect it. However, I do keep seeing Flynn here due to the very close design.
I fully understand that many of these changes may be shocking or even unnecessary to the reader, especially when they are unaware of the context behind them. But in a nutshell, most of these changes are happening because they were the originally proposed ideas (the plot of Rapunzel from years ago was also created by the current writer, Cyan) and for one reason or another, they ended up morphing into things I never agreed with. For that reason, now that I am continuing the project as the sole artist, I need to feel comfortable with my original vision and recover all those ideas and nuances. I have invested many years and hours into this project, and I am now at the best point to continue in a way that is fulfilling for me as it used to be 😀
Most likely. There have been a bunch of design changes made to some characters, such as the very sweet and innocent looking version of Grimhilde’s hag form meeting with Aurora compared to the Disney version who looks everything but that. Another is the Grand Duke from Cinderella being quite handsome and the King now having hair.
No, he won’t. He’s supposed to look that way. In this scene, he was already originally older and with a change of dressing style. Following Flynn’s aesthetic is just a change of visuals, not his plot or character. It’s simply a haircut and a beard. 😁
Suddenly this makes a lot of sense! Probably one of the few characters introduced here that the “redesign” is actually meant for later chapters due to the previous appearance being from a flashback. Still feels a bit weird though, like if you drew a character that looked exactly like Donald Duck, but Daffy Duck’s voice and mannerisms came out of him.🤣
Thanks for clarifying. Is Breadfly currently involved with the comic in any way, shape or form?
I recall one of the writers saying that they didn’t like Flynn Rider’s cheeky flirty thief design for Bastion since he is supposed to be a sweet prince. Another writer noted that Bastion would indeed have Flynn’s design before the character even debuted.
Well, Breadfly withdrew from the project around October 2022 and no, she hasn’t had any more participation since then. My friend Cyan, who had already written several scenes in previous years for us (Mulan’s debut, Rapunzel, Arista’s special chapter…), became the new full-time writer in November 2023, “debuting” with the Rapunzel scene in chapter five. We have worked together on rewriting some already published material and have practically rewritten almost the entire post-London story (which was not particularly defined or lacked sense, lol).
Regarding the comments you mention about Bastion, the first one would be Breadfly’s and the second one mine, since I was indeed going to work with Flynn’s design as a base (but as different characters). But Breadfly insisted on another temporary path so I designed both versions anyway.
Why Odile is blonde again in this page? That appearance it´s not just a disguise to don´t rise suspicion in Polais? Judging by is father looks and Size, they not exacty human.
Is that…Flynn Rider in the 7th pannel?
It’s Bastion using Flynn’s aesthetic which was the original idea and recovered now 🙂

Does this mean that Bastion’s design in the original Rapunzel pages will now be changed to resemble Flynn as well?

Well said and perfectly understandable.

Are you and Breadfly still romantically involved? You were such a long-lasting couple?
No, not anymore.

I was scrolling through their tumblr the other day and found this exact question asked by an anonymous. Apparently, it’s a spoiler.
