All these innocent moments of Ariel being happy and in love with Eric and now enjoying her time as a human have such a sadness in them when you know the lore & the future. Ugh, phenomenal writing all in all!
Exactly, Eric was just a huge crush, it wasn’t love in the pure sense of the word, Ariel mainly admired Eric because he was the first human she saw up close, if Eric was a merman she wouldn’t like Eric probably, she’d just find him hot.
I was wondering the same thing about Attina witnessing her mother’s death. Or rather the horrible image of her baby sister chewing her way out of her belly…

Tristan is shocked to see Ariel in Polais but I’m shocked to see Tristan in Polais!
I believe White Phoenix is alluding to the fact that, even though we know Tristan is actually a human, nobody expected to see him as a human in this comic outside from the flashback a few pages back.
Technically, we did though! At Melody’s 16th birthday party, we first see Tristan and Arista in human form. At the time, I just assumed he was another merman.
I probably should have specified “in this chapter” rather than “in this comic.” I think the majority of people – me included – did not expect to see Tristan as a human in this chapter, and much less see him hanging around Polais. I know I did not.

I hope to see Vanessa in the next chapter. But I sometimes wish she can be happy with Eric though I know I’m only one who thinks so
You are not! Ariel and Eric used to be my favorite Disney couple as a child, and even though they are no more due to a variety of reasons (mostly just me being tired of having to explain people that Ariel did not leave the sea only to get a vagina) they still make me nostalgic and starry eyed sometimes.
I like that Attina is getting some attention too. It makes the impact hurt even more when you realize that many of the mermaid went through separate traumas that they won’t share with each other.

So, Ariel waking up all happy, Ariel doing the “he loves me, he loves me not” thing in the underwater garden, the Under the Sea song, Triton destroying Ariel’s cave and her going to Ursula all happen within the span of one day? Wow, I never considered that.

Okay, I love that Tristan actually saw Ariel as a human being during her quest to get Eric to kiss her in return. Love even more that he detected Ursula’s contract magic on her.

You kind of forget that he took on the role of a pirate as a human.
You kind of forget that his merman guise isn’t his actual identity. Right now, it’s a pirate so it would totally make sense.
