I think it’s important to note an important factor here, he may have had no other choice. Snow White in this story wasn’t raised as a royal, but as a servant. Therefore she has no experience in the fields that would be required of her as royalty, if I recall she was just beginning to learn to read/write after she married Frederick.
And Snow White is not even the worst case in this because even if she is queen regent she still has her own kingdom united with Frederick’s, and also since she didn’t receive an education since she was young, having her rule would put too much pressure on Snow, Frederick knows all of this and he cares for her so he prefers to do most of work.
Aurora is also another case of pretty but no voice because her parents decide everything for her.
The worst cases for example are Adam and Belle, he couldn’t defend her from her humiliation and people dislike Belle from being a peasant and even think she’s a prostitute. Cinderella and Alphonse love each other, but if they didn’t and Cinderella couldn’t bear children they’d “kick her out”, and with Ariel and Eric people hate Ariel for being the one bringing ruin to Eric’s kingdom.
Jasmine is the one with real power out of the girls, because in her case she married a poor man, so she’s the one in charge.
So the “less worst cases” are Snow Aurora and Jasmine, because Snow and Aurora at least are “loved” by people, even if it’s just for their beauty, and Jasmine is the only one with actual power and capacity of making her own choices.

It’s not fair to Snow White since she can’t control the society she lives in, but due to the more impulsive nature of her daughter I find logical that she feels more admiration for the figure of her grandmother. Oh the irony…
Oh Rose, there are many different types of relevant women. Just because some, like your mother, don’t fit your standards of strength doesn’t make them useless.

Rose Red’s critique of Snow White sounds like the modern day generation and how they dislike Snow White or the classic princesses in general. It also reminds me of the original Snow White and Rose Red fairy tale where Snow White is the more typical fairy tale heroine, more feminine and shy, whereas Rose Red was the tomboy sister and adventurous.

This sounds a lot like how the modern audience views Snow White compared to more active Disney Heroines, such as Mulan, Belle or Moana. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with Snow White, but there’s a difference between “Someday My Prince Will Come” and “How Far I’ll Go” for sure.
I think the interesting question is how would Snow White feel about her daughter’s opinion on her. Would she defend her right to be the way she is, would she admit that Rose Red has a point, or…

I think it’s important to point out that Rose Red has a very limited vision of the world. Sure she is learning to word her opinions better, but she’s still mentally at 6 years old in knowledge. Her vision on her parents is very extreme and probably biased, “dad is strong and smart, mom is useless and pretty”. We know for sure that Frederick is not reigning the kingdom and doing all the work by himself as Rose seems to think, and neither she knows how much weight Snow White really posseses, maybe not in the public eye but as a supporter and confident of her husband. After all Snow White and Frederick have been portrayed in a positive light so far as a marriage unlike Ariel and Eric for example.
But I really like the way these different women are portrayed in here, and Rose Red still says that she doesn’t hate her mother and admits her positive traits even if they’re not enough for her standards.
Who is the pretty boy?
That’s Frederick, Snow White’s husband.
😭
Ahh,back to modern day Snow White in beautiful dress that looks better than any Disney designer.
Also seems unfair and illogical with Florian Fredrick’s character that he would treat her or allow her to be treated no more than figure head.
Maybe he wouldn’t treat her badly, but he cannot change the whole system for her to that extend maybe?
