The way Ella and Blue Fairy are drawn here makes it one of my favourite pages. The way the mother looks at her daughter before making probably the biggest sacrifice possible breaks my heart
the backstory for Cinderella and her mother reminds me a bit of Belle’s backstory from the original, unabridged Beauty and the Beast. Where there’s a whole second half of the story after the curse breaks when Beauty learns that she’s in fact not only secretly a princess because her real father was a king, but her mother was in fact a fairy. And her mother is the sister of the fairy who helped the Beast and his mother, the queen, help break the curse placed on them by the evil fairy (who hated both the prince’s mother and Beauty’s mother and wanted revenge on their children). And another link is that the prince’s mother, the queen, and Beauty’s father, the king, are siblings so Beauty and the prince also turn out to be cousins.
I can see why most BATB adaptations scrapped all that to remove the secret royal lineage, superfluous parents, and all the fairy war drama.
